how to add signature and labels in gmail

Here’s how to set up your email signature, labels to organize your email (similar to folders), and filters to automate what happens to certain types of email.

Create an email signature

1. Open Gmail.

2. In the upper-right corner of the Mail window, click the Gear icon and then click Settings.

3. On the General page, scroll down to the Signature section and enter your signature in the box. 4. If desired, use the options above the box to format your text and add links and images.
5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Note: By default, you can set up only one signature. However, if your system administrator allows Gmail Labs, you can enable the External Signature lab to specify a different signature for email addresses outside your domain.

Create and apply email labels

Use labels to categorize your messages. Labels are like folders, but with a twist: You can apply multiple labels to a message, so you can "store" a single copy of a message in multiple labels. You can also:

●             Open a label on the left side of your Mail window to see all messages with that label
●             Search for all messages with a label
●             See labels on messages in your Inbox, to quickly identify different types of messages

Make your labels easy to identify by applying different colors to them. Here’s how labels look in your Inbox:

To create a label

1. Select or open any message to display the Labels icon in the toolbar:

2. Click the Labels icon and then click Manage labels:

3. Under Labels, in the Create a new label field, type the name of your new label, and then click Create

Under Labels, in the Create a new label field, type the name of your new label, and then click Create

Tip: Use the Nest label under option if you want to add a sub-label to an existing label. For example, you might add a sub-label for each day of the week under a parent label called “To Do.”

To change the color of a label

1. In your Labels list on the left, hover over the label and then click the down arrow that appears:

2. Select a color from the palette that appears. The change is instantly applied to all messages with that label:
To apply a label to messages (and keep them in the Inbox)

1. Select the check box next to the messages you want to label, then click the Labels icon:

2. Select the label name from the Labels drop-down menu and click Apply. You can select more than one label:

1. Select (or open) the message or messages you want to move.
 2. Click the Move to icon and select a label.

1. Click and hold near the box to the left of the message...
2. … and then drag the message to a label’s name.

To move messages out of your Inbox without applying a new label
1. Select one or more messages in your Inbox.
2. Click the Archive icon in the toolbar:

To view a labeled message that you’ve archived, just click the label in the left pane. (If you have a lot of labels, you might need to click More or scroll down to see your label.)

Tip: If you archive unlabeled messages, you can still find them under the system label called All Mail.

Set up email filters

Use filters to manage your incoming messages. With filters, you can automatically label, archive, or delete messages based on keywords and other criteria.

Gmail filters are similar to Email Rules in Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes.

1. In the upper right corner of Gmail, click the Gear icon and then Settings > Filters > Create a new filter.

2. Enter your filter criteria in the fields. For example, you might filter all messages from your manager with the words “Action Required.”

3. Click Create filter with this search, then select one or more actions to apply to messages that match this filter's criteria. For example:

4. To apply the filter to messages you've already received, click Also apply filter to [x] matching conversations.

5. Click Create Filter.

how to perform clean install of windows 7

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU START
The process detailed in this document is only for those who want to perform a clean install of Windows 7. This means that any previous version of Windows (XP or Vista) and all programs and files will be completely removed from the system. This is OK for a public computer system, but if you're planning on following this process on a staff or circulation computer, you will want to backup any important information first.

This document only deals with specific steps on how to install Windows 7, not how to install programs, device drivers, software, or hardware.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

If you have not yet purchased a Windows 7 upgrade, you should run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor utility first in order to make sure that your existing hardware will support Windows 7. Click on the link below to download and the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor utility. You can also run this utility from the Windows 7 Upgrade disc.

Hardware and Software Compatibility

It is not up to Microsoft to provide compatibility fixes and software updates to ensure that your software and/or hardware peripherals function properly on Windows 7. Therefore please visit the manufacturer’s website for your software or hardware and make sure that it is compatible. There are cases in which your existing software or hardware may not work with Windows 7 and you may have to either upgrade your software, or purchase new hardware.

Note - All software that is provided on the PRL Support CD is Windows 7 compatible. Common applications such as Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 are also Windows 7 compatible.

A clean install of Windows 7 requires you to boot the computer from the Windows 7 DVD. This will bypass the normal boot sequence which normally is the hard drive. On most modern computers, there is an F-key (i.e. F12) that you will need to press shortly after the computer is turned on which will present you with a boot menu, similar to the one shown in the picture below.

how to upgrade to windows 7

Upgrading to Windows 7

Windows 7 was designed to upgrade from Windows Vista and not from Windows XP. Additionally, Microsoft will only allow the following upgrade path to Vista users:

•      Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium •        Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional
•      Windows Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Enterprise •        Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate

***Any other upgrade path from Vista to Windows 7 will require a clean install***

***Any upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 will require a clean install***

Before proceeding with an installation of Windows 7, you are strongly advised to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will check the compatibility of your computer with Windows 7 and alert you to any issues that you should address before installing Windows 7. The download is available
at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows‐7/get/upgrade‐advisor.aspx.

1. From the Microsoft website click on Download the Windows Upgrade Advisor Beta. 2. Click Download and then click Run.
3. A window will display that says “Do you want to run this software?” Click Run. 4. On the Setup Wizard screen, click Next.
5. Click I accept the license terms and click Next.

6. Click Install. When installation is complete, click Close. 7. When you see the screen below, click Start Check.

8. Windows Upgrade Advisor will start checking compatibility.

9. Once the scan is complete, Upgrade Advisor will display any issues that you should be aware of.

10. Click Close to exit Windows Upgrade Advisor.

You will be unable to do an in-place upgrade in the following situations:

1.    The current version installed on your computer is Windows XP.

2.    The current version is Windows Vista which has not been updated to Service Pack 1 or later.

3.    You are upgrading from a 32-bit version of Windows Vista to a 64-bit version of Windows 7, or a 64-bit version of Windows Vista to a 32-bit version of Windows 7.
4.    If you are moving from Windows Vista in one language to Windows 7 in a different language.

5.    If you are moving from a higher edition to a lower edition (e.g. going from Windows Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Professional).

In any of the above scenarios please be aware that when installing Windows 7 you will need to perform a “Custom (Advanced)” install on your PC and you will need to save your files, documents, pictures, video, music, etc., before installing Windows 7. You will also need to make a list of all the applications you have installed because you will have to reinstall all applications following the upgrade. This is because the Custom (Advanced) install wipes out all your files and applications. You will need to back up your end-user data files to an external hard drive and you will need to reload your files and applications to your PC once you have completed installation of Windows 7.

You can move your files manually or by using the Windows Easy Transfer tool that is included with Windows 7. Windows Easy Transfer guides you through saving your XP profiles, settings, and files (documents, pictures, music, etc) to an external device, such as an external hard drive, and then puts them back in place once the upgrade to Windows 7 is complete. Following are instructions on how to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 using the Windows Easy Transfer method. Make sure you have an external hard drive available on which to store the Windows Easy Transfer file that will be created.
